Editing for Cornerstone Barristers: Premiere Pro is your best friend

The Royal College of Surgeons is an historic location, with columns, archways and large conference rooms giving that grandiose feel. C60media shot and recorded the event Cornerstone Barristers Planning 2022 and we were back in 2023!

Event Video in London

Having been the video editor for last year’s Cornerstone Barristers Planning Day, and a variety of other jobs and projects in-between, this time was a much easier experience jumping in, as the client didn’t want too much changed from the previous formula but I still wanted to spruce things up and show off a bit of what I had learnt.

My first change was to update the key visuals and assets, 2022 felt very dark, and plain. So for 2023 I wanted to brighten up the colours, use Cornerstone’s font, add the polkadot pattern motif and expand the presentation window:

Just from the text change alone I was happy with the update. When it came to editing, it was a similar job to last year, although instead of relying on Barn-door wipes or crossfades I took the approach I did with another conference, and used an Iris shape transition, specifically ‘Iris round’ to tie into the round shapes of the brand such as their rounder font and 9 dot grid.

Editing the Event Video

If you’ve read our post going over the shoot process, you would know we used the Sony FX6 and Sony FX3 to capture every detail in 4K HD, which has been a standard for us since 2022.

Just from this comparison shot we can see how far a different angle and lighting means, as we were able to zoom in and angle the shot better without worry of lowering the quality, fix the lighting and avoid the bright yellow tones. As we were working in 4K we applied a standard LUT to all the shots, however this made colour correction and lighting control much easier and resulted in a nicer, cinematic image, as seen below:

Along with shooting in 4K, we were able to set up another camera angle and capture new shots, such as an audience angle for interactions or applauding. It also meant we could capture people asking questions during the QnA segments.

Video Sequence

The video timeline was smooth and efficient, keeping everything on track and hassle-free. Check out how seamlessly it all came together:

The main Presentations were compact and layered with ease, as seen here:

The Final Event Video

We successfully delivered the edited presentations and promotional content to Cornerstone, and we’re thrilled to report that they were impressed with the results. Reflecting on this year’s production compared to last, it’s clear how much we’ve evolved alongside our client, providing a more concise and polished final product. This enhanced clarity not only meets their needs but also adds value as they present it to their clients for CPD accreditation.
